Opportunities
Recruitment will begin in November/December 2010 with training commencing the one year programme on 18th April 2011.
Fourteen funded trainees will be recruited as follows at the following schools:
- Poole High School
- Poole Grammar School
- St Edwards RC/VA School
- Winton Arts And Media College
Nine places available for shortage subjects
Five places available for non-shortage subjects
Subject Areas
No subject area will be excluded from the selection process, however applications are particularly welcome from candidates able to offer the shortage subjects of Mathematics, Science (Physics and Chemistry ), Food Technology, MFL, Design technology, Music and Religious Education.
Recruitment Procedure 2011
The April 2011 recruitment procedure will be as follows:

ALL POTENTIAL APPLICANTS ARE ADVISED TO ATTEND AN INFORMATION EVENING ABOUT THE TRAINING PROGRAMME AT POOLE HIGH SCHOOL PRIOR TO SUBMITTING THEIR APPLICATION – date to be confirmed
Longlisted candidates will be invited to attend an ‘Initial Selection Day’ at one of the four employing schools.
Following this short listed candidates will attend a second day of interviews at Poole High School. On this day all entrants will attend a panel interview (made up of representatives from Wessex Schools Training Partnership and Employing Schools) and will be asked to complete a basic literacy and ICT test.
All candidates will also be asked to present a small mini-lesson (related to their specialist subject) to a group of key stage 3 students and complete a team task.
Teaching Assistant / Cover Supervisors
If you would like to gain further experience of working with young people prior to application or if you are not successful in the recruitment cycle but would wish to gain further experience to increase future chance of success – you are advised to think about applying for a position of Teaching Assistant / Cover Supervisor.
Teaching Assistant / Cover Supervisors supervise classes for absent teachers and help students with the work that has been sent by the teacher. They also assist teachers in the classroom environment and with administrative tasks.
It is probable that Employing Schools will be looking to further recruit Teaching Assistant / Cover Supervisors during the next year.
This is excellent experience for teaching as a career.
