Poole High School

The lead employing school – the majority of trainees will be employed here. Poole High School (12 to 18) serves families throughout the borough of Poole who elect to send their children to this non-denominational comprehensive. The school has 1650 students on roll.

OFSTED (2004) reported that

  • This is a good school with a good sixth form. The achievements of the school is good.
  • Students attitudes, values and personal qualities overall are good.
  • The quality of education by the schools is good.
  • Leadership and management of the school overall are good.

The school had a 60% pass rate of A – C grades at GCSE (2008) and a 100% pass rate at A-level (2008) the school has received a DFES school achievement award.

Poole Grammar School

Poole Grammar School (12 to 18) – and employing school – is a selective school for boys in the Borough of Poole. The school has 970 students on roll, with 300 in the sixth form. The school is a Mathematics, Computing and Cognition college and classed by the Specialist Schools Trust as a High Performing Specialist School (HPSS). The school has received both Investors in People and Investors in Careers status along with the International Schools award, Sportsmark, Healthy Schools award and Artsmark. The school is part of the South West Academic Trust (SWAT), a group of schools backed by Exeter University which is committed to raising achievement across the South West.

OFSTED (2009) reported that Poole Grammar School:

  • Is a forward thinking and outward looking school
  • Its pastoral care is exceptional
  • There are outstanding extra-curricular opportunities
  • Its pupils are courteous and articulate

Personal development in the Sixth form is outstanding because of the excellent curriculum and the exceptional care, guidance and support which the school provides.

St Edward’s School

St Edward’s is a popular and successful voluntary-aided joint Roman Catholic-Church of England 12-18 comprehensive school, supported by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Plymouth and Church of England Diocese of Salisbury.  St Edward’s serves the local church communities by offering:

  • A learning community built upon Christian values.
  • An academic secondary education for all abilities.
  • A family atmosphere in a mixed school.
  • Excellent examination results with outstanding value added.
  • Good discipline and pastoral care.
  • A wide range of AS and A2 level courses – based in a Sixth Form Centre plus link courses.

In 2008 the school had a 72% A* – C GCSE grades and 97% pass rate at A-level. The school received DFES achievement award in 2001 and 2002. Currently there are 854 students on roll.

Canford School

617 pupils on roll of whom 204 are day pupils.

In 2008 80% of pupils achieved A*/A GCSe and 100% pass rate at A level.

In 2007 the ISI (Independant Schools Inspectorate) reported that:

  • Pupils show enthusiasm for learning and are highly successful academically;
  • Pupils’ learning and achievements in their academic courses and in games and extra-curricular activities are outstanding;
  • Pupils showe respect for each other and their teachers and their behaviour is usually exemplary;
  • An exceptionally wide range of weel-organised sports and other activities adds real breadth to the curriculum on offer;
  • An outsanding feature of the school is the community service programme which is key to developing pupils’ sense of duty and responsibility.

St Joseph’s Catholic Combined School

St Joseph ’s Catholic Combined School admits children from 4 – 12 years of age. It is a co-educational Roman Catholic School although it also admits children from other religious denominations. There are 345 pupils on roll. In the school’s last OFSTED inspection it was noted that “The school’s very good ethos and constant promotion of Christian values of care, courtesy and respect create a harmonious community.” The school has two National awards for Extra-Curricular Activities. It has also achieved the Healthy School Award and the Fair Trade Award.

Winton Arts and Media College

Winton Arts and Media College received its Specialist Status in 2007.
They are proud of their most recent successes: In 2007 they achieved their best ever results at GCSE examinations with 56.5% of our students gaining 5 or more A* – C grades. Our specialist status in Arts and Media enables them to develop a maximum range of opportunities and courses for our students. September 2007 they opened our Multi Media Centre with its state of the art facilities that has allowed them to develop digital media and an imaginative use of ICT across the Curriculum.

The College gained foundation Status of the International Schools’ Award and are involved in a partnership programme with Umbilo School in South Africa. Our first
successful visit took place in the Summer of 2007.

They are a ‘good school’ (Inspection Report, 2005) committed to achieving the highest academic standards within a caring and challenging environment.

They success reflects our motto: ‘we are here to learn together’. We work in partnership with our students, parents and the local community.
